‘MAN AND THE COMPUTER’ | CD-ROM PRESENTATION BY ISABELLE TERRIER | 2001 In this series of photo-montage-illustrations of his own creation, Lucas Racasse exposes the absurdity of a reversed digital reality: man reduced to the status of an object, while the computer becomes the master of its creator. Enslaved by the endless transmission of data, dependent on connection, man now lives vicariously—his reason teetering under the rule of the machine. Through intricately crafted images, bursting with saturated colors and alarming veracity, Lucas attempts to step in, giving shape to the insidious threat of virtuality. With clear pop art influences, his visual treatment echoes the daily experience of a vast, connected population—calling out a warning: It’s still possible to fall in love without a search bar… A word to the wise.
